“I have had to learn how to be a teacher and how to be patient,” said Rayyen Rojas (Chile). Rayyen is temporarily in charge of the galley, the ship’s kitchen, while the chief cook is away on an extended break. After studying Administration and Gastronomy for four years and working for two years in a hotel, she finds life in the galley very different. She has to teach people the basics such as how to peel a carrot, the team is constantly changing and there is also the language barrier. In dry dock the galley team has to prepare five meals a day to cater for the ship’s community who are working long hours in the heat. “But we have a good team who are willing to work,” Rayyen added. “They are learning to work as a team.”
