“We could load a car onto Deck 9 now if we wanted to,” said first engineer Johan Crezee (Netherlands). Johan supervised the extension of the crane on the aft (rear) of the ship’s Deck 6. The crane, which was installed when the vessel was being refitted in Croatia, has been extended by 2.85m and can now lift 3.5 tonnes, allowing it to haul items onto the ship’s upper deck. The shipyard where Logos Hope currently resides found the right steel for the crane then tested it in a laboratory to make sure it was the right quality. “We had a good relationship with the shipyard,” added Johan. “We worked closely with them. We monitored what they were doing and they kept us informed about each stage of the process.”
