“Floating out of dry dock safely is a milestone worth celebrating,” said marine superintendent Elon Alva (Australia). “A lot of holes were cut into the ship side now we know the hull is intact.” Important as it was to reach that milestone, several major works must still be finished before Logos Hope can sail again. These among many others include work on the main engine fuel system, the lube oil purifiers, work in the tanks and electrical installations to complete the systems being built. After the works are complete, systems must be tested and certified and crew have to be re-trained in using them. An external surveyor from Lloyds Classification society must carry out many operational and safety tests before granting a Passenger Ship Safety Certificate. To speed up the work Logos Hope needs three plumbers, four electricians and five who have one of these skills –mechanic, machinist or welder. An additional marine or maintenance engineer for ship machinery and systems is also required for the ship to sail from this port.
