Literature for all

Ships :: How can literature impact lives?

There are hundreds of stories to be told through books. Books can bring encouragement, change, transformation, teach skills, education, knowledge and so much more.

And books are more than just words on pages. They are vessels of knowledge, help and hope for the future.

The bookfair

Logos Hope has the largest floating bookfair in the world, with 5,000 titles on board. The books are for all ages with something for all the family. While in The Bahamas, Logos Hope was delighted to welcome many schools on board.

“In a world where access to diverse and quality literature can be a challenge for some, your floating bookfair is a beacon. It offers thousands of students their first chance to walk aisles filled with a world of knowledge, to hold a new book in their hands and to have their imaginations ignited in a way that only a good book can,” said guest of honour, The Honorable Glenys Hanna-Martin, Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training, as she welcomed the ship to the Bahamian shores.

Donations bring joy

When in port, Logos Hope donates books to schools, prisons and other groups in the community in need of literature.

In a correctional facility in Antigua, a team of crewmembers had the opportunity to donate two boxes of books to the facility’s library.

“When the books are in the library, I’m going to read all of them,” one prisoner enthusiastically shared.

The team was additionally able to connect with the prisoners and hear their stories, building bridges of hope.

Bringing the library to new shores

In the British Virgin Islands, locals shared that there was a limited access to books.

“The library had been destroyed by the hurricane in 2019,” a journalist there said.

And as a floating library, Logos Hope was able to support the islands with good quality literature as she visited these shores for the very first time.

At the official opening in the British Virgin Islands, one guest reflected, “Books have a special way of bringing people together.”

Beyond the departure

And as the ship departs from port, she leaves behind a trail of literature.

“This “floating university” of life is an invaluable gift. It broadens horizons, fosters global citizenship, and plants seeds of hope and possibility in the hearts of future generations,” The Honorable Glenys Hanna-Martin, Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training said.

“Aboard this ship, our students are granted a unique, living classroom. They will walk the decks and interact with crew from every corner of the globe. In doing so, they are not just learning about geography and cultures from a textbook; they are shaking hands with it, conversing with it, and seeing firsthand the beautiful tapestry of humanity. This is the epitome of experiential learning.”
