Ships :: Captain Ragnar expresses his thanks to faithful supporters who make sharing knowledge, help and hope possible.

Every voyage of Doulos Hope is made possible by those who stand behind her. For Captain Ragnar Mouritsen, stepping aboard wasn’t just about filling a vacancy — it was about witnessing the impact of his homeland’s long-standing support firsthand.

Hailing from the Faroe Islands, a nation deeply connected to the sea, Captain Ragnar has spent more than two decades as a professional seafarer. Recently, his role as captain of Doulos Hope from Kaohsiung to Hualien, Taiwan, gave him a better perspective on what the ship does from one port to another.

“We build on three main things: sharing knowledge, help and hope… It’s always nice to hear stories and connect with those from all over the world. [And] it’s been a real pleasure to serve with such a capable crew,” he shared.

'For Captain Ragnar, standing on the deck of one of the very ships his country has long supported felt like a full circle moment. “To see Doulos Hope in action is different from seeing people supporting it,” he shared. “They're two sides of the same thing. And I see that the support is going for something that is good!”

“Without support, we [can’t] do the work that we do. We [can’t] sail from port to port and reach the people we meet,” he emphasised. “To operate, we need support. And I'm very proud that the ships have been welcomed by my home country.” Many have served on board or contributed in other ways. This is something that makes me proud.”

“To professional seafarers out there considering joining — do it! You will not only be challenged professionally, but you will also grow in many other ways. It’s a journey I highly recommend.”

Captain Ragnar also expressed his deep appreciation to those back at home: “To the people in the Faroe Islands, I would like to send my gratitude and thank you for the support that we have got. Without it, we wouldn't be able to sail and impact the people we meet. So, from everyone on board here, we just want to thank you very much.”

Doulos Hope is more than a ship — she’s a vessel of transformation. Her journey is made possible by faithful supporters like those in the Faroe Islands, who invest in her service through funding, sending crewmembers and in many other ways. As Captain Ragnar and his crew continue their journey from port to port, they prove that real change happens when people come together.

“Every visitor has an opportunity to talk to someone on board. And through that, we create relations that [can be] for life. So, what I hope for the future is for Doulos Hope to continue her good work,” Captain Ragnar encouraged.

We are grateful for the global community of partners who continue making a difference by sharing knowledge, help and hope across the world.
